AKA MDIB (Minimum
Distribution Incidental Benefit Calculator), MRD (Minimum Required Distribution
Calculator, RMD (Required Minimum Distribution Calculators), and IRS 72T Calculators
In the year you
are age 70 and a half, the
IRS requires you to take withdrawals from your tax-qualified plans (IRA/SEP/401(k)/etc.),
whether you want to or not.
If the IRA is inherited, the IRS requires the beneficiary to
make withdrawals, and pay taxes on them, annually. This is their way to make sure they
recoup the taxes you saved along the way.
This simple money calculator will help you estimate these annual required
withdrawal amounts, including an estimate of the annual taxes due. This is useful to know
before it actually happens, in actually making the withdrawals, estimating future
withdrawals, and for cash-flow/estate/and tax planning purposes.
Most qualified plan custodians will do this for you, but only when it
actually happens. Errors in their work do occur. This calculator can serve as a check on
their work (so you won't get dinged penalties by the IRS for not taking enough out).
There are just three input fields, and the calculator figures the
withdrawal amounts.
The MRD IRA Minimum Distribution Calculator is now part of the Time Value of Money Calculator. The
retirement software has them too as a normal payout method.

The "Joint and Last Survivor Not More than 10 Years Younger"
version was not made because it doesn't happen too often, and programming it would be
hard, making it too expensive.
